Sunbeam Lights of Welcome

Before the first note swelled or the first curtain rose, the journey began at the grand entrance of Sunbeam Theatre. There, suspended like a constellation of quiet guardians, hung 108 round, off-white lamps.

To the theatre’s original architect, these lamps represented a simple wish: to “part the clouds and see the blue sky” (撥開雲霧見青天). To step beneath their glow was to leave the outside world at the door. And to step out again, after the final applause faded, was to carry a fragment of the opera’s wisdom — a lens through which your own troubles might feel lighter, clearer, more navigable.

These lamps witnessed it all: performers in hurried costume, audiences in quiet anticipation, countless films, soaring arias, resonant concerts, and the laughter of community gatherings. Generations passed under their soft radiance, yet the lamps remained — steady, luminous, full of stories.
